    Performing the role of BIM Manager in a larger office enabled Kevin to further enhance his capabilities and knowledge of BIM process and software implementation. Utilizing new training platforms to bring a larger team up to speed with all things BIM, and working directly with partners to establish an office ethos by providing a true insight into what BIM is. Further enhancing protocols, guidelines and workflows to improve BIM understanding across all facets of the firm — from HR to IT to design teams.

    This role kick-started Kevin's career in architecture on completion of his undergraduate degree. Project types ranged from small-scale residential units to large-scale healthcare and educational facilities valued between $1 million and $10 million, with primary responsibility for the production of technical drawings for construction documents, including permits and site surveys.

    Technological University Dublin

    The MSc in Applied BIM Management focuses on the BIM process, emphasizing the use of associated documents and software tools. Study covered industry standards such as PAS 1192 — which went on to form ISO 19650 — providing structured frameworks for information management throughout the lifecycle of built assets. The curriculum spanned Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks, with practical skills in 3D modelling, clash detection, collaborative workflows and the development of BIM Execution Plans.

    The Architectural Technology degree emphasized architectural principles and proficiency in Revit.     Commercial development

    Digital twin / scan-to-BIM

    An upgrade and extension to an existing building. A scan-to-BIM service generated a digital twin, with the data taken from ReCap into Revit to build a construction model for evaluating existing conditions during design. The same model served as an as-built digital twin, opening a route to future FM systems.

    University campus

    Construction sequencing

    All underground floors had to be built before a specific machine could be installed. Using Navisworks, the team simulated the construction sequence — a digital twin of the machine shown being transported and positioned without damaging the new underground structure. BIM tooling was decisive to the outcome.

    Residential / commercial development

    LCA and carbon quantification

    The contractor required a life-cycle assessment to determine the carbon footprint of a specific material, focusing on concrete quantities before construction began. The work emphasised element-level LOD over whole-model detail, with teams collaborating on BEP protocols and a defined LOD matrix for the materials and components in question.

    BIM implementation strategy

    BIMCEART has helped firms with little or no existing BIM plan build one from scratch. The first step is assessing current workflows and understanding the firm's BIM vision, followed by a comprehensive BIM process presentation, implementation timelines and agendas for further training and management.
